This is a customized 8-day Taste of Kenya Safari that introduces our clients to Kenya’s best wildlife and scenery. It takes you to Samburu National Reserve where you get to see all of the Samburu Special Five (Baisy Orxy, Somali Ostrich Gerenuk, Grevy Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe). Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru National Park & Masai Mara National Reserve in a truly personal way. This is one of the few safaris where seeing all the Big Five (Leopard, Lion, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino) is guaranteed.

Detailed 8 Days Taste of Kenya Safari

Day 1: Nairobi-Samburu National Reserve

Leave Nairobi after breakfast driving through the central highlands and into the northern plains with stunning views across the slopes of Mt. Kenya arriving in Samburu National Reserve on time for lunch at the Samburu Simba Lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive that introduces you to this beautiful park, which is home to the famous (Samburu Special Five) very rare species which include; Baisy Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk, blue-necked Somali ostrich, and Reticulated giraffe. The herds of elephants in this reserve will stun you. The Ewaso Ngiro River provides an excellent spot for game viewing.

Day 2 of 8 Days Taste of Kenya Safari: Samburu National Reserve

Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the surroundings from our lodge’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, we’re off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands. The day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in the lodge.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve-Ol Pajeta Conservancy

Depart from Samburu National Reserve after breakfast and travel to the exotic Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp in the secluded heart of Ol Pejeta Ranch and Rhino Reserve. Here, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their horns. The Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary where we meet the primates face to face Our camp also overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area and offers elephant, giraffe and myriad plains game. This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendour; our tents at Sweetwaters Serena TentedCamp will remind us of this bygone era. Overnight at Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp Drive time: 2 ½ hrs Evening game drive – 3.00 p.m. to 6.45 p.m.

Day 4 of 8 Days Taste of Kenya Safari: Ol Pajeta Conservancy-Lake Nakuru National Park

Rise early for your last game drive and return to the camp for breakfast. Leave Ol Pajeta Conservancy after breakfast and head to Lake Nakuru National Park with stopovers at the stunning Thompson Falls (Nyahururu) at 1100hrs and Great Rift Valley View Point(Subukia) at 1200hrs arriving on time for lunch and later proceed for an afternoon game you’ll view the millions of pink flamingos that colour this lake pink. Lake Nakuru is one of the Rhino sanctuaries in Kenya and therefore viewing rhinos in the wild is possible.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Enjoy an early morning game drive at dawn, returning to your lodge for breakfast at 0730 hrs. After your breakfast depart Lake Nakuru National Park and drive south to reach the game-abundant Masai Mara in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive in this magical environment reveals the giant herds of plains game and the numerous predators that have made the reserve so famous.

Day 6-7 of 8 Days Taste of Kenya Safari: Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s finest wildlife sanctuary; everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling grassland ensures that animals are never out of sight. Birds too are prolific, including migrant birds and 53 bird of prey species. The wildlife is far from being confined within the reserve boundaries and an even larger area, generally referred to as the ‘dispersal area’, extends north and east of the game reserve. The first sight of this park is breathtaking. Here the great herds of shuffling elephants browse among the rich tree-studded grasslands with an occasional sighting of a solitary and ill-tempered rhino; thousands of plains herbivores such as Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, Topi, and eland offer a rich choice of food for the dominant predators: lion, leopard, and cheetah all hunt in this pristine wilderness.

Day 8: Masai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi

Rise at first light and head for your last game drive in the reserve returning to the lodge for breakfast which is a perfect way to cap off your visit to the Maasai Mara National Reserve; depart for Nairobi with souvenir shopping along the way arriving in Nairobi in the afternoon.
