Uganda is known as the primate capital of the world and by choosing Uganda for your chimpanzee trekking safari is indeed a good choice. There several places in Uganda where you can go for chimp trekking and these include the famous Kibale National Park which has been regarded as the best National Park in Africa to trek wild but habituated chimpanzees. On top of this, you have an opportunity to see other 12 primates resident in this forest.
The other places popular for chimpanzee trekking are Budongo forest which so far has the highest numbers of wild gorillas in Uganda. Located in Northern Uganda and being part of Murchison Falls Conservation area, you can combine chimp trekking as well as game and boat cruises in Murchison.
If you are in Queen Elizabeth National Park, you may choose to trek chimps in Kyambura gorge (one community of about eight chimpanzees has been habituated) and or drive to Kalinzu Forest where National Forest Authority is in charge of chimp trekking in this eco tourism site.

Chimpanzee Trekking Safari Price
Just like gorilla trekking, you need a chimp trekking permit for chimps in Kibale National Park, Kyambura Gorge and Budongo Forest. Currently Kibale chimpanzee trekking permits cost USD150.00 per person per trek and Uganda Wildlife Authority is considering low season chimpanzee permits at USD100.00 in April, May and November 2016-17 (check with us for confirmation on discounted chimpanzee permits).
In Kyambura gorge, chimpanzee permits cost USD50.00 while in Budongo forest, a permit goes for USD80. We are very glad to quote you on any safari to trek chimpanzees so please contact us and we will advise you accordingly.
Unlike gorilla trekking, chimp trekking safari can be done in the morning or afternoon in Uganda. Depending on your program or flight details, you may choose to book a morning or afternoon chimp trekking session.
Chimpanzee Habituation Experience
Alternatively you can book chimpanzee habituation experience at USD220.00 to spend a whole day with chimpanzee under habituation. Booking your chimpanzee permit in advance puts you at an advantage as they can sometime run out of stock.
Chimp Viewing Excursions
For those with less time in Uganda and would like to take an excursion to chimpanzee, we recommend a visit to Uganda Wildlife Education Center where chimpanzees can be viewed in their near world environment and if you want to have an up close encounter, then chimpanzee close up is the activity for you.
There also daily boat excursions to Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary that provide an opportunity to view orphaned chimpanzees feed and listening to one of the caregivers on how to conserve our closest relatives.
