Detailed 6 Days Tanzania Classic Drive Safari
Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
You will be met by your driver-guide in Arusha or at Arusha airport and together you will begin the transfer to Lake Manyara National Park to start your private safari game drive. Lake Manyara National Park, an underrated gem among safari parks, offers an impressive number of birds that thrive on the water. From the park’s main entrance, the road winds through an area of groundwater forests. On the grassy banks of the lake, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra and buffalo can be seen grazing throughout the day. The mahogany and acacia trees are inhabited by the famous tree-climbing lions; with a bit of luck, you may see them lazing on a tree branch.
You will enjoy a packed lunch at midday and the end of the afternoon’s game drive, you will make your way to Africa Safari Karatu. On arrival, you will have time to refresh before finishing the day with dinner under the stars and a good night’s sleep in one of our comfy bungalow accommodations.
Main Destination: Lake Manyara National Park
Accommodation: Africa Safari Karatu
Day 2 of 6 Days Tanzania Classic Drive Safari: Road trip to Ndutu / South Serengeti
Today you have a rewarding drive ahead of you, as you make your way from Lake Manyara region, through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and to Ndutu / South Serengeti. The road will take you through the Maasai homeland, the only tribespeople permitted to live in the Conservation Area. Traditionally nomadic, the Maasai people are rich in culture and can often be seen herding their cattle in brightly coloured traditional Maasai robes.
They live in complete harmony with the earth, using their long-ingrained family knowledge of plant life as a means of survival. Along the drive, you will be able to spot giraffes, zebras and other animals. Prepare to be amazed when you catch your first glimpse of the endless plains of the Serengeti. When you arrive in our Africa Safari South Serengeti, you will have already had your first taste of game driving in this unique area.
Main Destination: Ndutu – Southern Serengeti
Accommodation: Africa Safari South Serengeti (Safari Comfort)
Day 3: Full-day game drive in Ndutu Area
Wake up to all the sounds of nature and, with a bit of luck, you may even see a group of elephants pass by your tent. After a delicious breakfast, today is all about an impressive game drive where you thoroughly explore the Ndutu area. In the first months of the year, the calving season of the Great Migration takes place here. More than 1.5 million wildebeest migrate in a huge loop every year.
A true spectacle! In the other months, anyway, you are likely to encounter giraffes, elands, elephants and hopefully some species of the 6 big cat species that reside here. At the end of the day, you will return to Africa Safari South Serengeti for a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Main Destination: Ndutu – Southern Serengeti
Accommodation: Africa Safari South Serengeti (Safari Comfort)
Day 4 of 6 Days Tanzania Classic Drive Safari: Full-day game drive in Serengeti National Park
There is nothing like waking up from a restful sleep to the sounds of the Serengeti. Once you have enjoyed your breakfast, the acacia-covered savannah of Serengeti N.P. welcomes you to explore the wildlife. You will drive towards central Serengeti, Seronera area. Seronera Valley with the Seronera River supports a far greater diversity of resident wildlife than anywhere else in the Serengeti, including elephants, buffalo, hippos and antelopes such as impala, reedbuck, waterbuck, and topi.
This is also the site for the Seronera airport, the visitor information centre, with a small museum, coffee shop, picnic area and staff village. En route, you will encounter rock outcrops, also known as ‘Kopjes’, which are characteristic of the Serengeti landscape and popular with predators as vantage points. By the end of this day, you will probably understand the meaning of the name ‘Serengeti’ as ‘Endless Plains’. In the late afternoon, you will return to Africa Safari South Serengeti.
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park
Accommodation: Africa Safari South Serengeti (Safari Comfort)
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Magic
Be sure to wake up early today, so there is no delay on your descent into the famous Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area will amaze you with its beauty. Even more so when you arrive at the edge of the crater and take in the amazing view over one of the natural wonders of this world. The crater of this inactive volcano is approximately 3 million years old, 20 square km in size, and the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world.
Due to its natural borders, the wildlife in the crater is amazing. The crater is home to the Big Five and offers a good chance to spot the rare black rhino. Throw hyena, zebra, buffalo and elephants into the mix, and you have the perfect canvas for a pretty awesome safari experience. At the end of the afternoon, you go to the lodge, Africa Safari Karatu, for a well-deserved night’s sleep.
